Installation and dismantle

Installation and dismantle (I&D) is the labor that builds an exhibitor’s trade show booth during move-in and takes it down at move-out, done by the show’s official contractor, an exhibit house, or an exhibitor-appointed contractor (EAC).

Each venue’s labor rules set who can do which work on the floor. At many venues, union jurisdiction limits what your own staff can build, so read the exhibitor kit before you plan to set up the booth yourself.

Who can install and dismantle your booth?

  • The show’s general contractor, which you book through the exhibitor kit with an advance order.
  • Your exhibit house, if it builds and ships your booth.
  • An exhibitor-appointed contractor (EAC), which you name to the show by the kit’s deadline.
  • Your own team, within the venue’s rules, which at some venues cover only small displays and hand tools.

How is I&D billed?

  • By the hour for each worker, with a minimum charge.
  • At higher rates for overtime, such as nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • At a higher rate again when the contractor supervises the work.
