Event yield

Event yield is what an event produced, in meetings, pipeline, and closed-won revenue, as the connected record of the plan, the conversations, and the follow-up shows it.

Yield is the last of 5 layers in the record you keep for each event dollar: plan, presence, conversation, follow-through, and yield. Each earlier layer supplies an input, so your yield is as trustworthy as the record beneath it.

What goes into it?

  • Meetings: the ones your team books before the show, at the booth, and in follow-up.
  • Pipeline: opportunities and their value, with event-sourced and event-influenced kept apart.
  • Revenue: closed-won tied to the event.
  • Ratios: yield per dollar, such as cost per meeting, once you know the spend.

Why does it matter?

When you compute yield as the work happens, you can compare it across every show in a season and rank your events. Then move budget toward the ones that produce. Yield is the input to event ROI.

It is also the last of the 5 questions in the FieldXM thesis: what did the event yield, from the booth to closed revenue? FieldXM’s reporting shows you meetings booked, pipeline, and closed-won by event, rep, and team. Measure every dollar makes the case for recording the whole chain.

Related terms

  • Event ROIEvent ROI is the return an event generated relative to its full cost, which teams usually express as pipeline or closed-won revenue per dollar spent on the show.
  • Cost per meetingCost per meeting is an event's total spend divided by the sales meetings it produced before, during, and after the show, a cost ratio that rests on buyer commitments.
  • Closed-loop reportingClosed-loop reporting is reporting that ties each captured interaction to what followed it, from lead to meeting, opportunity, and closed-won revenue, so results trace back to the event or program behind them.
  • Event-sourced vs. event-influenced attributionEvent-sourced vs. event-influenced attribution is the distinction between opportunities an event created and opportunities already open that an event advanced, which teams report separately so neither number inflates the other.
  • In-person pipelineIn-person pipeline is the set of sales opportunities that an in-person interaction started or advanced, which a team tracks from the conversation to the CRM record to closed revenue.
