Cost per lead
Cost per lead is an event’s total cost divided by the number of leads it produced, a common first measure of trade show efficiency.
How do you calculate it?
Add up the full cost of the show: the booth and sponsorship, design and shipping, travel and hotels, and your team’s time. Divide by the leads your team captured. A show that costs $60,000 and produces 300 leads costs $200 per lead.
Count the same costs at every show, or your numbers won’t compare.
Why does it flatter badge scans?
Every scan counts as a lead, whether the person stopped for a giveaway or asked for a pricing call. A show with a busy aisle and a slow sales cycle can post a great cost per lead and produce little pipeline.
So report it beside numbers that weigh each lead:
- Cost per meeting: what each booked meeting cost you.
- Qualified leads: the leads that passed your qualification criteria.
- Event ROI: the pipeline and revenue the show produced against what it cost.
When is it useful?
Use it to compare similar shows, or to spot a show whose cost jumped. Make funding decisions on meetings and pipeline.
